Our Story

Chesapeake Creek began in 2019 as a hobby after my husband bought me a candle making kit for our 3rd anniversary. Friends started asking for different scents and I started buying higher quality materials. By the end of 2019, I started setting up tables as A Rustic Little Candle Co. at vendor fairs around St. Mary’s county with what few products I had made.

2020 was a year to remember for all of us. In April, we found out we were expecting our second son in November. I would be taking an unpaid maternity leave and needed a way to supplement of a little bit of income during those few weeks. Vendor shows were out of the question, so I turned toward educating myself on growing my audience online. I worked on connecting with customers and providing a product that they would love.

2021 was a year of so much growth. In March, I changed our business name from A Rustic Little Candle Co. to Chesapeake Creek Candles. With the name change came a complete rebranding and a new purpose. I wanted my audience to use my brand as a way to unwind. Calm, relaxed, and easy going are how I wanted my audience to feel around the business and products. Weekends were filled with vendor shows all over the tri-county area. I got to meet so many new faces, I made connections with some amazing people, and I had the pleasure of showing off something that I had invested hours upon hours into. We ended the season at the Kris Kringle Market in Charles County, which is by far one of the best opportunities I’ve been given so far.

In August 2021, we found out we were expecting our third baby. In January of 2022, we were told there was a few slight complications with the pregnancy, but everything should be fine as long I was able to take it fairly easy- which is near impossible with 2 toddlers of my own, and running a daycare 50+ hours a week.

It is currently February and I am on complete bed rest for the remainder of my pregnancy. I had to close my daycare for the time being and my husband has had to stop working to take care of our boys. I have •officially• made him my right hand man in production while I handle the back end of things, and we’re hanging on tight to see where things take us!

This business is my outlet. My favorite thing to do after the kiddos go to sleep is put my headphones in, turn on my favorite podcast, and create. I love creating a stockpile of inventory for shows or new seasons and being able to make batches upon batches of candles and wax melts in all different scents. And I love sharing my passion for candles and creating with you all! None of this would even be possible without having the wonderful customer base that we have and I can assure you that every single order is appreciated from the bottom of our hearts.

Much love,

Savanah & Matt
